Who is Yahweh?

Who is Yahweh?

1 a. Yahweh’s Name: Is His Memorial unto All Generations

The name Yahweh (represented in scripture as the Tetragrammaton, the four Hebrew letters YHWH) The personal name of the Creator. It derived from the Hebrew verb “to be” signifying self-existence, eternal, and unchangeable.

When Yahweh revealed Himself to Moses, He said, “I Will Be What I Will to Be,” (Ayah Asher Ayah) highlighting that He relies on nothing else for His existence. Yahweh is the covenant name He chose to be remembered by for all generations. His name appears about 6,800 times in the original Hebrew scriptures.

  • Supporting Scripture: “And Elohim said moreover unto Moses, thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, Yahweh, the Elohim of your fathers, the Elohim of Abraham, the Elohim of Isaac, and the Elohim of Jacob, hath sent me unto you: this is my name for ever, and this is my memorial unto all generations” (Exodus 3:15 HNB)

1b. Yahweh is Pure Spirit: John 4:24 (HNB)

“Yahweh is Spirit: and they that worship him must
worship him in spirit and in truth.” In His pure spirit state, He is invisible. Without shape and form. He is the ultimate source and substance. The limits and bounds of all things. In His pure spirit state, He is divine Intelligence, Wisdom and Knowledge, Love, Beauty and Justice. Foundation, Power and Strength.

2. Yahweh as Creator: He is Yahweh Elohim

Before anything existed in the visible or invisible realms, Yahweh was there. As Yahweh Elohim, he spoke the universe into existence, the earth, the heavens, the angelic hosts, and mankind. Yahweh Elohim created humanity in His own image, breathing the breathe of life into them. Every star, angel, animal, and human being owes its breath and existence to Yahweh Elohim.

  • Supporting Scripture: “You, even you, are Yahweh alone; you have made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth, and all things that are therein, the seas, and all that is therein, and thou preserves them all; and the host of heaven worship thee.” (Nehemiah 9:6)

3. Yahweh as Savior: Manifested in the Flesh as Yahshua

The ultimate expression of Yahweh’s love and redemption was fulfilled when He stepped into His own creation as Savior. In the Hebrew text, the name Yahshua literally means “Yahweh is Salvation.” Yahweh manifested Himself in human flesh, walking among mankind, experiencing human suffering, and willingly offering His life as the perfect sacrifice for sin. As Yahshua, Yahweh bridged the gap of separation, providing the only way for humanity to be reconciled to Him.

  • Supporting Scripture: “And without controversy great is the mystery of holiness: Yahweh was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.” (1 Timothy 3:16 KJV)

4. Yahweh’s Character: Holiness, Mercy, and Truth

The character of Yahweh is perfectly balanced between absolute holiness and profound, tender mercy. Yahweh is completely separate from sin, yet He is intensely patient, compassionate, and slow to anger. He does not excuse the guilty, but He delights in showing love to those who seek Him. Yahweh‘s promises never fail, and His truth endures throughout all generations.

  • Supporting Scripture: “And Yahweh passed by before him, and proclaimed, Yahweh, Yahweh-EL, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth. Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty;” (Exodus 34:6-7 HNB)

5. Yahweh’s Dealings with Mankind

Throughout history, Yahweh has worked with specific individuals to reveal His purpose and plan. Here are some examples:

  • Abraham: Yahweh called him out of the Ur of the Chaldees, promising to make him a father of many nations and a blessing to the entire world.
  • Moses: Yahweh chose him to deliver Israel from Egyptian bondage, revealing His holy Law and instructions at Mount Sinai.
  • Joshua: Yahweh commanded him to be strong and courageous, personally leading the armies to conquer the Promised Land.
  • David & Solomon: Yahweh established David’s royal lineage forever and granted Solomon unparalleled wisdom to build a glorious temple dedicated to Yahweh’s name.
  • The Prophets: Yahweh put His words directly into the mouths of prophets like Isaiah, Jeremiah, Obadiah, Ezekiel, and Joel to name some.
  • Supporting Scripture:“Know therefore that Yahweh thy Elohim, he is Elohim, the faithful El, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations; “(Deuteronomy 7:9 HNB)

6. Yahweh as King: Ruler of Heaven and Earth

Yahweh is not a distant observer; He sits on an eternal throne as the absolute Sovereign King of the entire universe. Yahweh establishes kingdoms, brings down empires, and rules over the physical laws of nature and the spiritual realms alike. His kingdom is everlasting, and no human power, angelic authority, or dark force can overthrow the supreme dominion of Yahweh. All creation ultimately bows to His royal decrees.

  • Supporting Scripture: “Yahweh has prepared his throne in the heavens; and his kingdom ruleth over all.” (Psalm 103:19 HNB)

7. Yahweh as Judge: Perfect Justice

Because Yahweh is holy and supreme, He holds the ultimate right to judge the actions, motives, and hearts of every individual. Yahweh is the righteous Judge who will bring hidden motives to light, vindicate the oppressed, punish wickedness, and restore perfect justice to a broken world. His judgments are fair, unbribable, and final. Facing Yahweh as Judge highlights the deep necessity of accepting his grace.

  • Supporting Scripture: “Before Yahweh; for He cometh, for He cometh to judge the earth; He shall judge the world with righteousness, and the people with His truth.” (Psalm 96:13 HNB)
